5 Ways to Stay Upbeat & Positive!
"Hello everyone, it's nice to see all your wonderful faces again!"
Now that is how I feel every time I begin a new blog. All that is before me is a blank page, and enough room for me to write until I'm blue in the face. Speaking of which, is anyone else getting this insane weather? (Last week: Snow Ice, and 70 degree weather. This week: Warm weather, warmer weather, then snow for days.)
This week I've been thinking about ways to stay healthy and happy! This time of the year is the peak for suicide. Springtime comes with lots of lovey-dovey couples, birth of new innocent creatures, and growing plants. Who doesn't love Spring?
Spring also comes with a new feeling of hopelessness for some. Unfortunately, for thousands of people each year, suicide becomes a much easier alternative. Click here to read up on more information and facts about suicide.
Thus, I have compiled a short list of things that have been scientifically proven to boost health, happiness, and self esteem!
1. Exercise!
Everyone knows that in the past few years, great steps have been made to try to help people begin exercising more often. Exercise can lead to a healthier lifestyle, which can not only boost your immune system, but boost your self confidence! Who doesn't love the feeling of breaking a sweat, and moving your muscles? As long as you are being safe and smart while exercising, there aren't many negative impacts.
2. Give up unhealthy addictions.
The fastest way to kick-start your mindset into positive thinking, is to give up the negative things you have in your mind. Your mind can be your worst enemy, and your best friend. (However, if your mind is switching roles on you several times a day, you may want to see a psychiatrist.)
Give up unhealthy thinking.
The way you think of yourself is very important to your mental happiness. Your mind will often stop you from doing things that you may want to do, out of fear. You have to try to break through the fear, and tell yourself you can do it!
Give up habits that control your life/mood.
An example of this would be smoking. Of course, it can be anything, not just a physical addiction/habit. Cigarettes are well known to smokers as a stress reliever, and mood enhancer. Even though a stogey every once in a while won't pose any immediate threat to your health, it is better to find an alternative way to release stress and emotions.
3. Begin to think more positive thoughts.
I can't do it. There is no way I'm going to be able to finish all this homework, and catch all the house-chores up before I go out tonight!
That is negative thinking.
Alright. All I gotta do is make a plan. First I'll start the laundry, and while that's going, I'll begin my research paper. When I need a break, I'll check on the laundry, and finish the dishes. I can be finished in two hours tops.
That is positive thinking.
Sometimes it isn't in what you do, but how you react to a situation that will guide the rest of your day. Of course, sometimes we need help staying on track! Here a a few phrases to help you think more positively.
1. Oops, I messed up. But that's okay, I can try again. It's not the end of the world.
2. I can do this. I won't back down, and can win this.
3. No matter what happens, I will try to be happy with the outcome.
4. I will always try.
My personal favorite is the last phrase, "I will always try." It is good to promise yourself things, because you will try not to disappoint yourself, naturally.
4. Your diet is a huge part of your well-being!
Believe it or not, you have heard the news on eating healthier foods leads to happier lives. You don't have to believe it to see that it truly works. You won't see immediate changes, but over a weeks time of eating good, healthy food, you will see an increase in energy, appetite, and even hormonal balances. (And guys, that means for you a little more bow-chica-wow-wow for you.)
Yes, buying healthier foods are a tad more expensive. For example, I love Zaxby's! I think it's insane that a salad with grilled chicken is more expensive than chicken wings, fries, toast, coleslaw, and a drink. However, it's cheaper so..
No. Don't make exceptions, because you have to have a solid plan for yourself. Create a diet plan with cheat days (for sanity if not for the gluttony or taste..) to keep yourself on track. Get someone to do it with you. Track what you do and eat, so you can watch progress. Try to progress.
5. Do something good for someone else.
This is my favorite! The title is pretty self explanatory, but I still want touch on why you should do this. Doing good for others is a huge self esteem booster. It will create a (for lack of a better term) vortex that will continue to spin, the more you do for others. Sometimes it's just holding the door open for someone, smiling at someone on the street. Perhaps it's something as easy as carrying groceries to an elderly lady's car. It doesn't have to be big! It doesn't have to change the world. It just has to change the outcome. This one thing, a simple act of kindness towards another person, animal, or being, will create something that so often people lose their lives over:
Hope.
Well, that was my five things. Sorry it's a bit short this week, I haven't had much time to plan. Ya know, working, training, and snowing on my days off!
Enjoy the rest of your week everyone. Big shout-out to all those who are loyal an actually read these posts. :)
Respectfully as always, your host,
Twenty
Ps. Enjoy the snowy weather while it's here.. I know I will!
